Twinsie Tuesday: School Colors

When I think of school spirit my mind immediately goes back to high school. But maybe that’s because my post high school education consists of graduating from a trade school that didn’t have a mascot and colors.

I was a T-Bird and as you can see, our school colors were orange, white and blue. According to our fight song the official colors were orange and white, but we got the blue worked in there somehow. Not very original school colors. I’d bed that there’s at least one of my fellow twinsies that is sporting the same colors.

I got brave and tried the explosion again. I think this is the third or fourth time I’ve attempted it. I used painters tape this time. The lines aren’t perfect, but it’s by far my best explosion yet.  Of course as soon my top coat started to set, I gouged my ring finger nail with my other hand.  AAARRRGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so mad!!  It was completely lifted and rolled up.  I attempted to unroll it with a toothpick then smooth it out with my wet finger.  It actually looks pretty good compared to what I started with.  I used Jordana Orangsicle and Smooth Blue and Sally Hansen White On.

Black and Green

I recently bought a shirt that is fat stripes of army green and black. I love it. One day while wearing it, I decided to use it as my inspiration.My shirt doesn’t have any roses on it, but I didn’t want to do all stripes on my nails and man, am I glad I decided against that. I don’t know if it was my tape or something to do with the China Glaze Liquid Leather I was using, but each time I tried to peel the tape off after polishing, the tape would break. It was strange. It just snapped on in little pieces like it had been scored or something. Fortunately my green polish, OPI Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window was pretty dry so shoving a pin under the tape to peel off the left over parts didn’t ruin the base color. It did however ruin the black stripes. Rather than bagging the whole mani and taking it off, I went in with a striping brush and fixed the damage as best I could. Overall, I’m pleased with this mani. I didn’t use new or different tape than I’ve been using, so I can only figure that that tape and Liquid Leather don’t play well together. Has anyone else had issues like this? It’s like the polish weakened the tape or something. Bizarre.

Twinsie Tuesday: Cervical Cancer Awareness

Did you know that January is Cervical Cancer Awareness month?  I didn’t.  Cervical cancer screening is just as important as breast cancer, skin, ovarian, prostate, colon screening and all other forms of cancer.
A little information for you about cervical cancer:
Each year in the United States, more than 11,000 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and approximately 4,000 die of the disease. While certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV) are linked to cervical cancer, vaccines such as Gardasil® and Cervarix™ are designed to prevent infection with high-risk types of HPV and have the potential to greatly reduce the occurrence of cervical cancer.

To show my support in teal and white, I went with some chunky stripes and a floral. To give myself an extra challenge, I did this design with my left hand. It was a lot trickier, but I managed. I used Milani Fresh Teal, NYX Girls White and white acrylic for the floral.

I think it’s safe to say that none of us enjoy our cervical cancer screenings, but hopefully we all understand how important it is. Go get your paps ladies! 🙂

Explosion Fail

I think we’re all familiar with Jane from Nailside. I envy her skills. She’s one of my favorites. I did not do her explosion mani justice.This was my second attempt at this design.  I’m seriously struggling with it.  I don’t know why.  Her tutorial makes it seem so simple.  I’m determined to get it right.  I’m struggling with the tape placement.

In an effort to save time, I did it over an existing mani  The subtle polka dots paired with the black and silver “explosion” looks very comic bookish to me.  Like they should have “Bam!” and “Pow!” captions.  I used Sally Hansen Black Out and OPI DS Radiance for this look.

I will for sure keep trying at this one.  I love the explosion when Jane does it.  I will conquer it.  Mark my words. 😉

V-Gap Dotticure

I’m really loving the polka dots lately.  Maybe it’s just because I’ve been busy and am too lazy to try anything else.  I do love the retro look that polka dots create.

I love the designs you can create with tape, but I sure do hate the drying time.  I usually try to stick the tape on too early and end up messing up my polish in the process.  I’m impatient and don’t like to use layers of top coat to dry things in between.  I had to do some touch up work, but once the top coat goes on, you can hardly even tell.

I love this color combination.  I love grey.  This is Sally Hansen Wet Cement and Essie Alligator Purse.  Here Alligator Purse reads as red, but it’s actually a burnt orange.  It’s a fabulous color!
