Starry Gradient

11 Mar

I read quite a bit.  I haven’t always.  Last summer I started and haven’t looked back.Gradient_purple_blue_star (4) WLcopyI recently finished The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. I LOVED IT! Highly, highly recommend it. Another favorite is Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. I’ve read it and listened to the audiobook more than once. This design is inspired by these books. One is fairly obvious from the title. The other, you’ll just have to read to see why. 😉 Gradient_purple_blue_star (6) WLcopyI started with OPI Vant to Bite My Neck then sponged on some Jordana Smooth Blue and finished off the gradient with NYX Sepia. The stars are a vanilla colored acrylic. I love this gradient! So pretty.

If you’re a reader, you neeed to check out these books. They’re two of my top picks.

Attention Getters

20 Feb

Nothing grabs peoples’ attention quite like a flaming red manicure.GlitterGradient_red_purple (10) WLcopySunday morning getting ready to head out the door and all 20 nails were naked.  Can you even believe that?  No mani or pedi!  And I wanted to wear peep toe pumps so going out with naked toes was unacceptable.  I rushed this paint job.  All 20 digits got a coat or two of Sinful Colors GoGo Girl.  It’s one of my brightest reds.  It tows the line between a jelly and a creme.  It really is a beautiful polish.GlitterGradient_red_purple (11) WLcopyTo add that extra oomph I added some OPI DS Temptation on my ring fingers and thumbs.

Twinsie Tuesday: School Colors

5 Feb

When I think of school spirit my mind immediately goes back to high school. But maybe that’s because my post high school education consists of graduating from a trade school that didn’t have a mascot and colors.

SchoolSpirit (10) WLcopyI was a T-Bird and as you can see, our school colors were orange, white and blue. According to our fight song the official colors were orange and white, but we got the blue worked in there somehow. Not very original school colors. I’d bed that there’s at least one of my fellow twinsies that is sporting the same colors.

SchoolSpirit (14) WLcopyI got brave and tried the explosion again. I think this is the third or fourth time I’ve attempted it. I used painters tape this time. The lines aren’t perfect, but it’s by far my best explosion yet.  Of course as soon my top coat started to set, I gouged my ring finger nail with my other hand.  AAARRRGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so mad!!  It was completely lifted and rolled up.  I attempted to unroll it with a toothpick then smooth it out with my wet finger.  It actually looks pretty good compared to what I started with.  I used Jordana Orangsicle and Smooth Blue and Sally Hansen White On.

Twinsie Tuesday: New Year

1 Jan

New Year’s eve is always pretty anticlimactic for me.  I’m not one for parties, so it usually entails watching TV until midnight, watching a replay of the Time’s Square ball drop, then going to bed.  Yeehaw.  I played with the idea of doing a mani that showed my resolutions and goals for 2013, but I’m not even sure what those are yet.
Grey_purple_glitter (5) WLcopyInstead, I decided to play with the new polish that my daughter picked out for me.  Hubby took her to Sephora and of all the polishes she looked at, she picked Nails Inc Bloomsbury Square.  It’s supposedly a 3D glitter.  I don’t even know what that means.  It’s beautiful though!Grey_purple_glitter (12) WLcopyI paired it up with CND Asphalt and topped it off with Chill Zone top coat.  It makes me think of confetti falling in the dark sky.  Fabulous combination.  Happy 2013 everyone!

Twinsie Tuesday: Chanukah

11 Dec

Today’s theme required a little research on my part.  I’m not Jewish so I had no knowledge of my own to pull from for a Chanukah theme.  I read a little on Wikipedia, but didn’t understand most if it.  A story on my local nightly news the other night was actually more helpful.

Chanukah (2) WLcopyI considered trying my hand at the different symbols on the dreidel, but knew I would mess that up.  I went with a menorah.  I hope I lit the right number for candles for today.  I’m not sure if I got the schedule right.  When I was getting ready to to my candles, I wondered if the candles were supposed to look a certain way, so I Googled it.  It lead me to Traditional Jewish Gifts.  I liked the blue gradient candles.  This design very much resembles the birthday candles mani I did back in January.  I even used the same background polish, Cult Nails Mind Control.  Guess you can’t improve on perfection. 😉
