Twinsie Tuesday: School Colors

5 Feb

When I think of school spirit my mind immediately goes back to high school. But maybe that’s because my post high school education consists of graduating from a trade school that didn’t have a mascot and colors.

SchoolSpirit (10) WLcopyI was a T-Bird and as you can see, our school colors were orange, white and blue. According to our fight song the official colors were orange and white, but we got the blue worked in there somehow. Not very original school colors. I’d bed that there’s at least one of my fellow twinsies that is sporting the same colors.

SchoolSpirit (14) WLcopyI got brave and tried the explosion again. I think this is the third or fourth time I’ve attempted it. I used painters tape this time. The lines aren’t perfect, but it’s by far my best explosion yet.  Of course as soon my top coat started to set, I gouged my ring finger nail with my other hand.  AAARRRGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so mad!!  It was completely lifted and rolled up.  I attempted to unroll it with a toothpick then smooth it out with my wet finger.  It actually looks pretty good compared to what I started with.  I used Jordana Orangsicle and Smooth Blue and Sally Hansen White On.

Christmas Snakeskin

14 Dec

You don’t associate snakes with Christmas?  Seriously?  Just kidding.  I know, it really wasn’t that funny.  I don’t know why I don’t do this snake skin-ish print more often. It’s so easy, yet so eye catching!Christmas_snakeskin (11) WLcopy

My middle finger got a little flubbed up, but the rest of them look pretty awesome.  It’s hard to see, but I actually alternated the sponged colors.  For instance, on my pinkie I sponged on green, then red “scales” while on my ring finger I sponged on red then green “scales.”  I don’t know that it really makes a difference.  The hardest thing about this mani is waiting for your base color and/or sponged on color to dry enough that you can stretch the lace over it without it sticking.  I had a slight problem with that on my middle finger.  That and I had a bit too much polish on my sponge so it bled under the lace.  I love it regardless.

For this design I used Sally Hansen White On, Kleancolor Green Grass and Sinful Color GoGo Girl.  You can check out the tutorial I did for this design over on Julep’s blog, here.

Do you think the Christmas snake works?  It’s not exactly warm and cuddly, but still festive, right? 🙂

Split Gradient

14 Sep

Sometimes I just really have no idea what to say about a design.  This is one of those times.  I’m having a bit of writer’s block.

I got the idea to do two different gradients on my nail at the same time.  Split the nail right up the middle.  I think it turned out pretty cool.  I started with China Glaze Liquid Leather.  Once that was dry, I taped off one half of my nail and sponged on OPI DS Magic and OPI Sea Ya Later Sailor for the blue.  For the orangeish-yellow I used Sinful Colors Cloud 9 and the unnamed LA Colors polish I got from the dollar store.

Halfway through this design it was time to get my daughter up from her nap, so I had to slap a top coat on it and hope I didn’t ruin it before I had a chance to finish and take pictures.  I did flub it up a bit, but I think I hid it pretty well.

For the second gradient I used OPI DS Radiance and OPI Calendar Girl with Sinful Colors Happy Ending and I think a little Revlon Zealous and OPI Sit Under the Apple Tree.  I had those two out, but now I can’t remember if I used them or not.  What do you think of my split gradient?

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

23 May

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is on each and every morning at my house.  The little one loves it!  My good buddy Kyrsten is headed to Disneyland soon and asked what I would wear on my nails.  Definitely Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

This is a bit abstract, yes, but all five main characters are there.  Just in case you’re as well versed in Disney Junior shows as I, let me tell you what you’re looking at.  Feel free to google images of these characters for reference. 😉  On my index finger we have Daisy Duck with her purple shirt and matching bow.  I used OPI Do You Lilac It and sponged on some China Glaze White on White.  The darker detail work on the bow is Milani Rad Purple.  I like how the gradient is a little rough.  It reminds me of her feathers.  On my middle finger, as if it’s not obvious, is Mickey himself.  Mickey wears red pants with yellow shoes, then of course I added his silhouettes.  The yellow is Sinful Colors Pull Over, the red is Color Club Reddy or Not and the black is China Glaze Liquid Leather.  My ring finger is Minnie with her pink dress and bow with white polka dots.  This fading polka dot design came from Chalkboard Nails.  The pink is OPI Pink Friday and the white is China Glaze White on White.  My pinkie is Donald Duck who wears a blue sailor’s top with yellow trim and a red bow tie.  The blue is Jordana Smooth Blue, the yellow is Sinful Colors Pull Over and the red is Color Club Reddy or Not.

On my thumb, we have a very abstract Goofy.  Goofy wears an orange shirt with a brown vest and a green hat.  I had a hard time deciding what to do with this one.  I actually did one thing, hated it and started over.  I went with a orange and brown ruffian then added a portion of his green hat.  My orange is Julep Parker, the brown is Finger Paints Sketchy Character, the light green is Orly Green Apple and the darker green is China Glaze Starboard.  Everything is finished off with Poshé.

I love it.  It’s a very happy mani and makes me want to go to Disneyland again.  I haven’t been for about five years.  It’s time to go again.  What do you think?  Is it too abstract or can you tell what it is?

Pink Orange Gradient

11 May

I’ve been looking for another reason to use Zoya Lola.  It’s such a fantastic pink.  I don’t know that there’s a manicure that can be done that is more bright and summery than this one.

This color combination could give you a tan!  I love it!  Doesn’t it just make you happy and warm?  I did two coats of Lola, then sponged on some Julep Parker and then to add a little sparkle, sponged on some Sinful Colors Cloud 9.

I loved this one enough that I did it as a full mani/pedi.  I could light up a room!
