Cult Nails: Clairvoyant (formerly Unicorn Puke)

19 Jan

This morning Cult Nails posted the following on their Facebook:

“Sad news today Culties – Clairvoyant may be dead. We were anticipating the wonderful news that Clairvoyant would be in our hands early next week. What we found out is one of the main ingredients that makes it what it is – is no longer. We are going to work to see how we can still make it happen with alternate ingredients, but at this point we are not sure how long the delay will be or if it will happen at all. We’ll keep you all posted, but if you are one of the lucky ones with Clairvoyant in your hands, hold on to that baby!”

This makes me sad!  On the flip side though, I’m relieved that I have a bottle.  Clairvoyant is sold out on Cult Nails’ website and I’ve seen it going for hefty prices on ebay.  I hope you already own a bottle.  If not, you might be SOL.

I wore this recently over Cult Nails Time Traveler just for the fun of it.  These gorgeous flakies are in a purple-ish jelly base.  I’ve tried it over a few different colors and I think it really is at it’s best over Time Traveler.  Even black doesn’t do it as much justice as a deep, dark blue.

I might not wear it much if it turns out that I can’t ever get another bottle.  It will stay tucked away, safe and sound in my helmer.

Snow Leopard

10 Dec

Yeah, I’m calling this my snow leopard manicure.  Isn’t it pretty?  I love how soft the colors are, yet the pattern makes such a dramatic statement.  This is only my second endeavor into leopard print.  It’s so easy, I don’t know why I’ve waited so long to try it again.  You know what’s a bit strange about it though, even with a coat of Seche Vite topping it off, it still looked like it had a sandy texture.  It didn’t have that glassy look Seche Vite usually gives.  An additional coat could have probably fixed that.  Oh well.

I did this freehand and used Icing Glimmer as the base color, O.P.I. Swedish Nude for the light spots and Cult Nails Power Thief for the darker spots.  I feel kinda bad using Cult Nails polishes for nail art.  Like it should be the star of the show and be worn all by itself.  Really, a polish is a polish, right?

Half Moons

3 Dec

When I told my husband I was going to try a half moon mani, he said, “So you’re gonna paint half butts on your nails?” Har, har, har. Silly hubby.  This was my first half moon.    Glitters and half moons don’t go together very well.  You can’t get a nice crisp line with a glitter, but it still looks pretty cool.

This is O.P.I. Rainbow connection over Jordana Purple Bright.  I globbed this glitter on pretty thick so it was a bugger to get off.  I really hate that about glitters.  I did my left hand was wasn’t convinced I liked the results, so I put Cult Nails Clairvoyant on my left hand.  I liked that much better.  I’m happy that flakies are easier to get off, too.

Clairvoyant is one of those polishes that pretty much makes everything better, doesn’t it?  I heart it.

Just to see what it looked like I added Sephora by O.P.I.’s matte top coat to my thumb.  I like it better glossy.

Ultimately, I like the half moon and will for sure try it many more times.  The pack of reinforcement stickers has like 500 in it after all.

Cult Nails: Super Powers

1 Dec

Like many of you out there, I got my Cult Nails Super Powers collection recently.  I was looking through posts in my reader when it dawned on me that my package may have arrived.  I opened my email to check the tracking and sure enough, it said it had been delivered.  It was about 9:30pm and really cold outside, but I ran down to the mailbox anyway.  I was just too excited to wait until the next day.  I interrupted the mani I was doing and put Clairvoyant on almost as soon as I opened the package.   A few days later I tried them all. This is one coat of Time Traveler with no top coat.  I was very impressed with the coverage of this polish.  It’s a gorgeous midnight blue with a creme finish.

Then I put Clairvoyant over the top.  The above picture is no top coat; below is Cult Nails Wicked Fast top coat.  I am in love with this polish!  It has a purple-ish colored sheer base to it with the amazingly colored flakes it’s so famous for.  You could put this over just about any polish and it would look awesome.

Next up we have Mind Control; a deep purple with tiny purple glitter.  I can’t remember now how many coats this is.  Another beautiful color with a smooth application.

Lastly we have Power Thief.  I LOVE THIS COLOR!  It looks gorgeous with my skin tone.  This could easily be my new go-to polish.  I applied two generous coats and topped it with Wicked Fast.  I would call this a cool medium brown with tiny holo glitters.  It’s definitely a two coater if you’re looking for the bottle color; it’s fairly sheer with the first coat.

I added Clairvoyant over the top of Power Thief on my thumb, just to see.  Yep, it totally works.  Then I topped it with Sephora by O.P.I.’s matte top coat.  Still just as pretty.

So far I’m really impressed with Cult Nails’ formula.  You can’t ask for much more than a great application, pure, deep pigments and they’re DBP, toluene, formaldehyde and camphor free.  What’s not to love?  I’ve got my eye on the Hypnotic collection now.

More Nail Mail!
