Twinsie Tuesday: Ruffian

26 Feb

Twinsie Tuesday, so good to me.  In case you didn’t click on that link, you’re supposed to sing that line to the tune of Monday, Monday by The Mamas & The Papas.  I have no idea why that popped in to my head.  It’s a bit before my time.  Anyway, this week we are doing Ruffians.

Ruffian_purple (6) WLcopySometimes I just open up my drawers of polish and pick a color, then start building a manicure around that polish. My first pick was Color Club Fashion Addict and I decided to pair it up with Sinful Colors Amethyst. Both beautiful purples. Fashion Addict is a great holo to add to your collection if you can track it down.

Ruffian_purple (8) WLcopyOf course I can’t leave well enough alone and had to add a little viney florish in purple acrylic. I like that since it’s tone on tone, it blends in a bit and you just get a little peek of it here and there.

Twinsie Tuesday: Birthstone

18 Dec

This week was an easy one for me.  We’re showing our birthstone colors.  My birthday is in January, so my birthstone is a garnet.  I actually have a polish called Garnet.  Hmm… I wonder what polish I should use for today’s theme?  No brainer.

Garnet (5) WLcopyThis was the first time I’ve actually used Kleancolor Garnet.  It’s a jelly for sure.  You can almost see straight through the bottle.  It looks much deeper in the bottle than on.  I’m sure with multiple coats it would look darker, but I got excellent coverage with one coat so I stopped there.

To add some extra sparkle, I added a coat of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Scarlet over the top.  Of course I can’t leave well enough alone.  Heaven forbid I just wear some polish without embellishments.  I added a silver dot in the form of OPI DS Radiance to each corner to represent a prong that would hold such a stone in a piece of jewelry.  I don’t like it all that much, but I don’t hate it either.  I do love garnets though.  Such a beautiful deep red color.  Very pretty.Garnet (19) WLcopy

We’ve got a new member of our group debuting this week.  Show Jamie a warm welcome by heading over to see what she’s been up to.

Brown and Holo Mish Mash

16 Nov

Autumn is making me want to find all sorts of uses for my brown colored polishes.

OPI DS Classic is such a gorgeous nude-ish holo.  Seriously so beautiful.  I paired it with Finger Paints Sketchy Character.  Mish mash designs are born when you can’t decide what to do; when you can’t make a decision.

I’m feeling very uninspired lately.  I’m in serious need of some creativity.  Guess I need to spend some time on Pinterest and look through some pictures.

Twinsie Tuesday: 3D Mani

13 Nov

I’m afraid I had to be a little clever with today’s 3D mani theme.  I wasn’t sure exactly what was meant by 3D.  Were we supposed to do something that was actually three dimensional like rhinestones or something that was more of an optical illusion?  I was going to go with an optical illusion, but couldn’t find the pictures I wanted to duplicate.  I could’ve sworn I’d pinned them, but guess not.

I was telling my husband about the pickle I was in and he (with his quick wit) offered a solution.

Get it?  Three D’s?  Har, har, har.  Clever hubby.  I used Color Club Fashion Addict and Sinful Colors Amethyst.  I wish my lighting showed the holo is Fashion Addict more.  It’s pretty brilliant.

I’m very curious to see how all the other Twinsies interpreted today’s theme.

Twinsie Tuesday: Regional

31 Jul

I think I say this almost every week, but this was a tough one for me.  A regional polish.  Something that either comes from your area or is only available in your area.  I did some light Googling and came up with nothing.  I also had a bit of a privacy dilemma.  I’m very grateful for all my readers, but didn’t feel the need to divulge where I live to everyone.  Sooo…

I picked five states in my general area and repre;sented each one on a nail.  I may or may not, live in one of these states, but will admit that I do live in this region of the United States.  Is that vague enough for you? 😉  On my thumb we have Wyoming, nicknamed the equality state.  My nail is split right up the middle; two equal parts.  The two polishes I used are OPI DS Classic and Opulence.  My index finger is representative of Utah, the beehive state.  I used Sinful Colors This Is It and Nirvana to create a honeycomb design.

My middle finger represents Idaho, the gem state.  I used multifaceted Orly Space Cadet and stuck on a few rhinestones to act as my gems.  My ring finger is representative of Arizona, the Grand Canyon state.  I did a multi-bordered design that got darker with each color to try to show depth, a hole.  I started with Jordana Chiffon, then Sinful Colors Nirvana, Finger Paints Sketchy Character and finally China Glaze Liquid Leather.  My pinkie was the easiest.  Nevada is the silver state.  I didn’t even try to get creative with it.  I simply brushed on a couple coats of OPI DS Radiance, a gorgeous silver foil.

This ended up being a fun theme because I had to get very creative and put a clever twist on it.  My favorite designs are Utah and Arizona.  I want to try Arizona in other colors sometime.
