Twinsie Tuesday: Special Edition

31 Jan

Wait, isn’t today Thursday?  Yes.  Yes it is.  Welcome to a special edition of Twinsie Tuesday.  Today marks the one year anniversary of the first ever TT post.  It snuck up on me.  To commemorate, we’re all revisiting our first TT post.  I’ve been here from the beginning, so my first post was an international polish.

Rose_mint_red (3) WLcopyI don’t have many international polishes, but I originally chose Barry M Mint Green. Of course I had to do something a little different with it this time around. Red wasn’t the most obvious choice to pair with mint green, but I think it’s pretty.

Blown Glass

30 Jan

This was a crazy easy mani and I absolutely love the effect!BlownGlass (15) WLcopy

It totally looks like blown glass to me. Don’t you think?

BlownGlass (20) WLcopyI used a striping brush and splotched each polish around.  You could probably do it with the bottle brushes, but you might have a bit of clean up.  With a small brush I was able to shape the polish around my cuticles and didn’t need to do any clean up.  This was done with all jellies.  I need more jellies so I can do this again.  I might try this over white next time to bring the color out more.  I used NYX Ink, China Glaze Phat Santa, Milani Rad Purple and Ulta The Jungle Look.  I want a yellow and orange jelly.  And maybe a brown.  Are there black jellies?

Twinsie Tuesday: Vintage Beauty Ad

29 Jan

I perused vintage beauty ads on Google for a long time looking for something I could (and wanted to) do. I emailed myself several links to keep track of the ones I liked so I could go back later and make a decision. When I went back to look through my links, none of them worked. They either linked to Google images directly or to the wrong image all together. Sooo frustrating!
VintageMakeupAdAfter Googling different phrases and browsing through images for a good hour trying to find the one I had decided to do, I finally found it.

Pastels_and_pearls (7) WLcopyI only had silver micro beads, but I think this is a good interpretation on this ad. This was the first time I’ve done a caviar type mani. I was frustrated that there were some gaps that required me to shift the beads around or add one to fill in the holes. They kept falling off too. I really only kept this on long enough to get pictures taken. I don’t think I’m a fan of the micro beads.

Pastels_and_pearls (15) WLcopyThe polishes I used were OPI Pink Friday, OPI Swedish Nude (under the beads), Essie Borrowed and Blue, American Apparel Butter and OPI Do You Lilac It.  What do you think?  Did I represent this ad well?

Leopard French-ish

28 Jan

I’ve been seeing these type of French manicures around a lot lately and I love them! So I decided to do one for myself.Leopard_french_pink_aqua_grey (2) WLcopyFortunately my nails are stained at the moment so I was safe to show off a little naked nail. 🙂 As I often do, I chose my colors from the polishes I already had out. I used OPI Pink Friday for my tips, Color Club Edie for the aqua spots and CND Asphalt is the grey. Leopard_french_pink_aqua_grey (9) WLcopyI topped this off with Chill Zone top coat. I should have used two coats to hide all the ridges in my nail. I don’t do much buffing of my nails and I didn’t use a base coat for this design, so one little coat of top coat over my naked nail didn’t hide imperfections as well as I’d have liked. Oh well. That’s what I get for not using a top coat I guess.

Nude Fishtail Braid

25 Jan

I’ve only done a few fishtail braids and each time I get about a third of the way through it and think, “This looks awful,” and almost quit.  It always seems to come together in the end though.FishtailBraid_nude (5) WLcopyI’m not in love with the color choices here.  I wish I’d omitted one of the browns.  I should’ve done either two darks or two lights, not one of each.  Oh well.  I love the holo though.  It’s OPI DS Classic.

The other two polishes I used were Sinful Colors Nirvana and Jordana Chiffon.  I topped it off with Chill Zone top coat.
