Random Fall-ish

15 Nov

Sometimes I just don’t know what to do.  I sit down with a polish or two and just start messing around.  Sometimes I like what comes out of it and sometimes I really don’t.  Today is a not so much.

I started with Essie Alligator Purse which is a perfect fall color.  It’s a reddish burnt orange.  Beautiful color.

Then I added stripes with Essie Chocolate Cakes.  I didn’t intend for the stripes to go diagonally, but I guess doing stripes with my non-dominant hand equals crooked stripes.  Oh well.  Then I added fish food flakies aka Finger Paints Asylum.  Totally reminds me of fish food.

I’m not at all in love with this mani.  At all.  For me, the flakies killed it.

Finger Paints Asylum

17 Feb

Are you loving flakies as much as I am?  This is Finger Paints Asylum.  It reminds me of fish food.  I’ve layered it over OPI Black Cherry Chutney here, which is gorgeous by itself.Put Asylum on top and wow!  I like that the Finger Paints flakies aren’t in colored bases so they don’t alter the color of the polish you layer them on.  They do although make them a bit foggy looking if you apply more than one coat because of the jelly they are in.

Dare I say that Asylum slightly resembles the infamous Cult Nails Clairvoyant?  You would definitely need a few coats to equal the concentration of Clairvoyant, but I think it might be a good substitute since Clairvoyant is currently unavailable.

I generally layer flakies over dark colors to make them pop, but I really want to try them over lighter, brighter colors.  I have a green Julep polish (that I don’t know the name of off the top of my head) that I’d like to try one of these over.  I’ll for sure show you if I try it.

Finger Paints Flecked

27 Jan

My sister got me this for my birthday, along with 2 others.  I was so excited to start playing with them.  I layered Flecked (the green one) over Zoya Cynthia from yesterday.  I was pleasantly surprised.

I don’t even know what else to say about this.  The possibilities are endless.

Cult Nails: Super Powers

1 Dec

Like many of you out there, I got my Cult Nails Super Powers collection recently.  I was looking through posts in my reader when it dawned on me that my package may have arrived.  I opened my email to check the tracking and sure enough, it said it had been delivered.  It was about 9:30pm and really cold outside, but I ran down to the mailbox anyway.  I was just too excited to wait until the next day.  I interrupted the mani I was doing and put Clairvoyant on almost as soon as I opened the package.   A few days later I tried them all. This is one coat of Time Traveler with no top coat.  I was very impressed with the coverage of this polish.  It’s a gorgeous midnight blue with a creme finish.

Then I put Clairvoyant over the top.  The above picture is no top coat; below is Cult Nails Wicked Fast top coat.  I am in love with this polish!  It has a purple-ish colored sheer base to it with the amazingly colored flakes it’s so famous for.  You could put this over just about any polish and it would look awesome.

Next up we have Mind Control; a deep purple with tiny purple glitter.  I can’t remember now how many coats this is.  Another beautiful color with a smooth application.

Lastly we have Power Thief.  I LOVE THIS COLOR!  It looks gorgeous with my skin tone.  This could easily be my new go-to polish.  I applied two generous coats and topped it with Wicked Fast.  I would call this a cool medium brown with tiny holo glitters.  It’s definitely a two coater if you’re looking for the bottle color; it’s fairly sheer with the first coat.

I added Clairvoyant over the top of Power Thief on my thumb, just to see.  Yep, it totally works.  Then I topped it with Sephora by O.P.I.’s matte top coat.  Still just as pretty.

So far I’m really impressed with Cult Nails’ formula.  You can’t ask for much more than a great application, pure, deep pigments and they’re DBP, toluene, formaldehyde and camphor free.  What’s not to love?  I’ve got my eye on the Hypnotic collection now.
