Zoya Lola + Sally Hansen Glitz Gal

30 Apr

I loved wearing Zoya Lola so much, I glitzed it up a bit and wore it all weekend.  It had been several weeks since I’d used Sally Hansen Glitz Gal and I wanted to use it again.

I’ve been seeing accent nails lately that aren’t the usual ring finger and/or thumb.  I decided to give it a try.  So I put Glitz Gal over Lola on my index and middle fingers.  I’m undecided about how I feel about it.  As a whole five finger look, it’s okay.  The majority of the time I feel like I just see my four fingers and it just looks like a half and half mani.

While I love these two polishes together, I’m not sure I like this arrangement.  What do you think ladies?

Wedding Nails

28 Apr

A few days ago I got a nice email from Brittany asking if I could so some “basic, but classy” wedding nails.  Let me tell you, if I could go back and do my wedding over again, I would love to have worn one of these instead of the french tipped acrylics I had.  Back in the day, it seems as though acrylics were expected.  Not anymore ladies!  Nail polish is an accessory just like any piece of jewelery would be.  Plus, if you do your nails yourself, it’s a lot cheaper than paying for a professional manicure or severely damaging your nails in the name of beauty.

I thought of a few different ideas for Brittany.  Instead of dragging this out in to several posts, I did each design on a different nail.   The last thing you want on your wedding day is to be upstaged by your own manicure.  Think understated, but definitely not boring.

First, on my pinkie, is a base color of Sinful Colors Easy Going, a super duper soft pink.  In this post, I showed a heart french with Easy Going on top of China Glaze White on White.  It really emphasizes how soft of a pink it really is.  Then I simply sponged on some Icing Glimmer, a gold micro glitter in a clear base.

In contrast to my pinkie, is my ring finger.  Also a base color of Sinful Colors Easy Going, but this time I sponged on Color Club’s Art Club polish in holographic silver glitter.  Gorgeous!  This one is in my top two.

In keeping with the sponging, on my middle finger we again have Easy Going as a base.  I started sponging on some OPI Pinking of You, but thought it was too subtle of a change in color so I switched to OPI Pink Friday.  This one is pretty self explanatory, but not my favorite.

Lastly, on my index finger and thumb, we have a very understated, soft water marble.  For this one I used OPI Pinking of You marbled with OPI Swedish Nude.  This is my other top two.  This is the kind of design that may not be noticed by a lot of your wedding guests, but will make you feel prettier for sure!  You know, like wearing fancy under roos.  It’s so delicate.

There you go Brittany!  I hope this gave you some inspiration.  I have a polish on the way that I think would make for a perfect wedding mani as well.  It’ll be here soon, so keep an eye out for it.

Zoya Lola

27 Apr

Holy crap I love this color!  I got this when Zoya did their Share the Love promotion a few weeks ago.  Lola is a super bright pink with with a purple/blue duochrome shimmer.  It’s fantastic!

Application was nice and smooth, but I am a little disappointed with the coverage.  Zoya says the opacity is a four out of five, but with two coats I still had very visible nail line.  I still kinda wonder if I can see some VNL after three coats.  I love it anyway!

Lola is just the happiest, brightest pink I’ve ever worn.  This is definitely going to be a full 20 nail  mani/pedi.  Seriously, get yourself a bottle!

Revlon Chic + China Glaze Liquid Leather

26 Apr

After my not so chic, Revlon Chic mani a few days ago, I needed to do something to dress it up a bit.  I sponged China Glaze Liquid Leather over the top of it.  I don’t know that I would technically call this a gradient, because there’s not really a transition from one color to the next.  It almost looks like a sponged Ruffian.  Either way, I really like it.

You know what I don’t like?  The mess sponging makes of your fingers.  And black is hard to clean up if you skin isn’t pristine.  This is my right hand and it’s always a little worse for wear than my left.  It works harder and sometimes it shows.  The black that got on my skin was really hard to clean up.

I would do this again.  Maybe with a little glitter and sparkle too.

Have Polish, Will Travel

25 Apr

I spent last weekend out in the Denver area for a quick visit to some family.  These were my traveling nails.  I thought some heavy glittered tips would wear pretty well.  I was wrong.

Airports and luggage and hotels are tough on a manicure.  I did my nails the night before we left and I had a small chip before the night ended.  The polish probably wasn’t dry, but still, a bad start.  Of course most of the tip wear and chips were really only visible to me.  For our flight home, we got to the airport pretty early so we sat in the terminal for a long time.  Boredom + an already chipped mani= I picked most of my polish off while waiting for our flight.  I should’ve taken a picture of the aftermath.  It was pretty bad.

The next morning when I took the remnants of my polish off, my nails were stained.  I had to bust out my whitening toothpaste and do a bit of scrubbing.  Not all of it came off, but it was much improved.  Oh, you wanna know what polishes I used?  This is Milani Rad Purple and OPI Rainbow Connection topped with Poshe.
