Twinsie Tuesday: Special Edition

31 Jan

Wait, isn’t today Thursday?  Yes.  Yes it is.  Welcome to a special edition of Twinsie Tuesday.  Today marks the one year anniversary of the first ever TT post.  It snuck up on me.  To commemorate, we’re all revisiting our first TT post.  I’ve been here from the beginning, so my first post was an international polish.

Rose_mint_red (3) WLcopyI don’t have many international polishes, but I originally chose Barry M Mint Green. Of course I had to do something a little different with it this time around. Red wasn’t the most obvious choice to pair with mint green, but I think it’s pretty.

Happy Thanksgiving Mani

22 Nov

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans!  I hope you’re all celebrating with loved ones and yummy food.

I’ll keep it short today.  I chose the colors for this mani based on my chosen Thanksgiving Day festivities outfit.  My right and left hand manis don’t usually match, but on special occasions I go with a full ten finger design.

I had something different planned, but when I tested SOPI Blasted Gold with another color to see how they worked together, I learned it’s a crackle.  I bought it from a blog sale and had no idea it was a crackle.  I already own a gold crackle and never would have given it a second glance had I realized that.  Oh well.

I still loved the tone of this gold and wanted to use it anyway, so I changed my game plan.  I used Essie Chocolate Cakes and polished SOPI Blasted Gold over the top of three fingers.  On my middle and ring fingers I polished with Sinful Colors Mint Apple, sponged on some Blasted Gold and added some Chocolate Cakes polka dots.

I’m completely in love with the results!  Especially the middle and ring fingers.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  have a wonderful holiday.

Twinsie Tuesday: Pastel & Neon Halfmoons

12 Jun

Today we’re doing pastel and neon half moons.  I started with one color combination and it was horrid.  I’m not even going to tell you what it was.  Horrid.  On top of awful color choices, I was struggling to keep my lines clean for some reason.  I don’t know what my problem was.  Frustrating.

Then I remembered THIS mani that I pinned a while back.  Yehaw!  No leakage issues with this striped half moon method.  I love the creative take on this half moon design.

Of course once I decided on the design, I had to re-evaluate my colors.  I went with Jordana Mint Candy as my pastel and Milani Rad Purple for my neon.  I know, it doesn’t really look neon.  If the bottle didn’t say it was a neon color, I wouldn’t call it neon.

I might do all my half moons like this in the future.  I like the creative twist and it was so easy to do!

Herringbone Nails

11 Jun

When I saw THIS post from The Polish Squirrel, I knew I wanted to try it.  I love the way they turned out!

This design was easy, but a bit time consuming just because there are so many little lines.  My base color is Sinful Colors Mint Apple; a minty, aqua sort of color with a slight shimmer.  I was originally planning to do the herringbone design with Sally Hansen White On.  I did it on my thumb and decided I didn’t like it.  It was too stark.  I switched to Julep Annette, a light grey creme.

If I’m ever unsure about a color or design, I start with my thumb.  That way if I screw up or don’t like it, it’s not really in my photographs.

I love this herringbone design and have The Polish Squirrel to thank for the inspiration.

Easter Chevron

9 Apr

Happy Easter (yesterday.)  This is the manicure I wore for Easter. I wasn’t up for any crazy nail art of Easter bunnies and eggs so I went with a chevron mani done in Easter colors.

The combination of these colors and this design scream 8Os me.  It reminds me of some super tacky bedroom set that you would see in a cliche 8Os movie.  That said, I really love it!  My purple is OPI Do You Lilac It?, pink is OPI Pink Friday and the green is Jordana Mint Candy.  This is the first chevron mani of this variety that I’ve done.  I’ve seen many of them floating around out there and really liked them so I gave it a try.  It’s very pastely and springy.
