Birthday Bunting

24 Jan

Just a quickie today. I wanted to do a mani on my right hand that matched the Spun Sugar Birthday Candles I was sporting on my left hand.Bunting (11) WLcopyFreehanded (with my non-dominant hand) bunting. I’ve always thought bunting nails were cute and festive.  I used some of the same polishes as my candles.  Essie Power Clutch was my base, the yellow is Sinful Colors Pull Over and my flags are OPI Do You Lilac It, Milani Pink Hottie and Zoya Mitzi.

Spun Sugar Birthday Candles

23 Jan

It’s my birthday!!  Yahoo!!  Hubs is taking me out for a night on the town (so to speak.)  SpunSugar_birthdaycandles (10) WLcopyI know I did birthday candles last year, but nothing says birthday to me like birthday candles.

SpunSugar_birthdaycandles (12) WLcopyTo kick them up a notch this time, I did them spun sugar style. Doing the spun sugar technique vertically was more of a challenge than horizontally. The strings just didn’t want to stick to my nail as much.

SpunSugar_birthdaycandles (14) WLcopyI love the melted wax look that resulted. They look very abstract. Love ’em! I used Essie Power Clutch as my base. My candles were done with OPI Do You Lilac It, Zoya Robyn, Milani Pink Hottie, and Zoya Mitzi. My flames are Sinful Color Pull Over and Jordana Orangesicle. I finished this off with Chill Zone top coat.

SpunSugar_birthdaycandles (19) WLcopyWhat do you think of this take on spun sugar?

Birthday Balloons

25 Jan

When there’s a birthday at our house, the balloons hang around until they don’t have any float left in them.  You just don’t quite get your money’s worth if you pop them while they’ve still got some life left in them.

I counted 12 different polishes for this design.  If you want to know about one specifically, feel free to ask, but I’m not going to chronicle them otherwise.  I’m not super impressed with this one.  It might be because I did it with my non-dominant hand.  Eh.

Sprinkles

24 Jan

A birthday cake isn’t complete without sprinkles…

Actually I usually opt for a lemon Jell-o cake.  Sooo yummy!  When I was little I paired it with peppermint candy ice cream.  An odd combination, I know.

I used a lot of different polishes for this mani.  I started with a base of China Glaze White on White.  The green is Orly Green Apple, yellow is Sinful Colors Unicorn, blue is China Glaze For Audrey, pink is OPI Pinking of You, purple is OPI Do You Lilac It?, and orange is Wet ‘n Wild Sunny Side Up.  Funny thing is, after I completed this, I saw an almost identical mani on Pinterest.  Great minds. 🙂

Birthday Candles Nails

23 Jan

Happy Birthday to me!  It’s my birthday this week!  Yahoo!  To add to the festivities, I’ll be doing a few birthday themed manis.  I want to wear these birthday candles all year round.  They’re just so cute!  I must say I’m pretty impressed with my flame painting abilities.  🙂  I taught my 18 month old daughter to “blow them out.”  Cutest thing ever.

I used Cult Nails Mind Control as my base color.  Obviously these bright colors weren’t going to show up on such a dark base, so I painted the candles and flames with my white Stripe Rite acrylic paint.  The pink/purple candle is Nina Ultra Pro Punki Purple.  The green is Orly Green Apple and the blue is Sinful Colors Savage.  My flames are actually three different colors.  The yellow is Sinful Colors Pull Over, there’s some Sinful Colors Cloud 9  in there and the darker orange that you can really see is Jordana Orangesicle.

I topped this off with Jordana Quick Sine.  I was disappointed to see some considerable tip shrinkage within a few hours, but only on my middle finger.  Kinda strange that it only happened on one finger.  I do have a habit of rubbing the tip of my nails with my thumb, so that may have contributed to it.  Despite the shrinkage, Jordana Quick Shine is still my go to top coat.
