Checks

22 Feb

More spring colors.  I hate that all the Easter candy is out in stores already.  Too much temptation!Checks_brown_purple_green (4) WLcopyThis manicure basically represents what my daughter’s room looks like.  She’s got an accent wall that is painted just like this.  Her colors are a bit softer, but this was the best I could do.  Obviously I freehanded this.  I don’t mind the organic lines.  They’re better than spending hours waiting for polish to dry so I can tape my nails off to do the next color. I used Jordana Chiffon and OPI Do You Lilac It and brown and green acrylics.  I topped it off with Chill Zone top coat.  I think I was a little too hasty in my application, because I had a ton of bubbles.  Operator error.

Twinsie Tuesday: Thanksgiving

20 Nov

In the good old U.S. of A. we are celebrating Thanksgiving this Thursday.  My favorite thing about Thanksgiving is the pumpkin pie.  I probably should have said something a bit more meaningful, but man, I LOVE pumpkin desserts.  Mmm… pumpkin ice cream mixed with some Heath candy bar from Coldstone Creamery.  Holy crud.  Heaven.

That said, I did a turkey mani today.  I’m sure all that talk about pumpkin made it sound like I’d some some kind of pumpkin something.  Nope.  Isn’t this little guy cute?

Not too far from my house is a petting farm of sorts where we occasionally like to go to see the animals.  You can pet and feed them.  I love the beauty of the horses, the small town feel of the cows, the crazy sounds the goats make and oh yeah, teasing the turkeys.  I love to tease the turkeys.  It’s seriously my favorite thing about visiting this farm.

My husband gets a kick out of it.  I’m easily amused I guess.  My daughter tries to join in the fun too.  Last time we went she and I both ran back and forth dragging a dried up leaf or something across the front of their pen and they all followed.  Good times.

Anyway, like my post yesterday, this mani was done in all Julep polishes.  It just happened that way.  It just so happened that all of the colors I wanted to use were available in the Julep section of my Helmer.  My base is Julep Blake (light yellow).  The rest are Vera ( soft brown), Alyson (nude), Stella (mustard-ish yellow), Parker (orange), Whitney (mauve-ish), Alma (green-ish), Brandt (black), Brigitte (white) and Molly (red).

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?  I could eat the appetizers and dessert and skip the meal all together.  The best parts are the beginning and the end.

Be sure the check out all the other manis today:

A Classic

9 Nov

I sat down to do my nails and of course the first design I think of is a leopard.  At first I dismissed it because I do so many leopards, but then realized that I haven’t ever really done a classic leopard color combo.

I shouldn’t have waited to long to do this!  I think leopards prints are so fun.  It’s almost a neutral to me.  It goes with just about everything.

I used Julep Stella as my base color.  This is the same color that just the other day I said was the perfect color for corn and now it’s the perfect color for a leopard.  My brown is Finger Paints Sketchy Character and Sally Hansen Black Out.

I find that doing a leopard design with my non-dominant hand seems to make it look a bit more authentic.  My unsteady left hand makes for brilliant irregular black spots.  Leopard is definitely my “go to” design.  What’s your “go to” mani?

Tiny Ghosts

29 Oct

I wanted a less obvious Halloween mani.

I used Julep Whitney as my base color.  It’s a very mauve colored beige.  A great fall neutral.  My eyeballs are China Glaze Liquid Leather and the white is acrylic.

I threw on some little baby ghosts to Halloween in up.  It’s been a super busy weekend.  I’m really tired and just can’t think of much to say about this design.  It’s a cute, very understated Halloween mani that would even be appropriate for an office job.

I’m ready for Halloween to be over.  I’ve been so busy.

Wedding Day Polka Dots

3 Sep

As I said in my last post, my sister got married on Saturday.  It rained most of the day and we were all very nervous that the outdoor wedding and reception that had been planned would be ruined.  Thankfully, the skies cleared a little more than an hour before the ceremony.  The sun came out and everything dried up.  It was a very sweet ceremony.  My sister looked unbelievably gorgeous and my new brother-in-law was very handsome in his tux.  A new storm rolled in after a couple hours and we had to scramble inside for the remainder of the celebration, but it didn’t ruin the evening.  Definitely a night to remember.

Being that I was making the wedding cake, I didn’t have a lot of time to do my own nails.  I wanted to keep them simple anyway.

Her colors were coral and aqua.  I polished my nails with Wet ‘n Wild I Need a Refresh-Mint then dotted on some Julep Alyson and Revlon Peachy.  They were the perfect compliment to my coral bridesmaid’s dress and the turquoise jewelery I wore.

I topped it off with Hong Kong Girl Top Coat.

I’ll post a picture of the wedding cake on Top Coat It’s Facebook page if you’d like a peek at it.
