Movember Moustache Monday

26 Nov

Last installment of Moustache Monday, until next year anyway.  This one’s a little crazy.  A zombie with a moustache?  Yeah, a little crazy.  Who watches The Walking Dead?  That show is definitely what inspired today’s moustache mani.  Each episode gets more and more intense.  I think I actually held my breath through an entire scene last night.

I can’t say that I ever recall noticing a walker with a moustache on the show, but I thought it would be fun to try.  Although my husband thought the moustache was blood around the mouth.  🙂

I played with a little splatter to compliment my zombie stache.  My splatter is done in Jordana Chiffon, Sally Hansen Wet Cement and Julep Alma.  Zombie’s face is a combination of the colors I already mentioned, Sally Hansen Black Out, Julep Annette, Julep Molly, and Essie Alligator Purse.  I topped it all off with Chill Zone top coat.

Movember Moustache Monday

19 Nov

I was racking my brain trying to think of a clever way to do a moustache mani for today.  I didn’t want to do the same old thing.  I’m not sure why Mr. Potato Head popped in to my head, but I’m glad it did.

This little guy is pretty darn cute and that’s quite the moustache he sports.  This design was a challenge because I did it with my left hand.  I’m getting better with my non-dominant hand, but I still have to keep it pretty simple.

I used all Julep polishes for this mani.  I didn’t intentionally set out to use all Julep, it just sort of happened that way.  My base color is Julep Vera with polka dots in Julep Allyson.  Mr. Potato Head’s face is made up of Julep Brigitte (white), Molly (red) and Brandt (black).

I topped this off with a new top coat I bought on a whim at Peerless Beauty Supply called Chill Zone.  The bottle has little information on it and when I Google it I get almost nothing.  Has anyone else heard the Chill Zone top coat?  I need to use it a couple more times to form much of an opinion, but so far so good.  I had a teeny tiny bit of smearage on the highlight on the nose, but that’s it.  I’ll keep you posted as to my thoughts on this one.

Let Mr. Potato Head’s moustache remind you to encourage the men you love to take care of themselves and get their physicals and do their self checks.  Don’t forget to check out the links for other Movember inspired manis.  Click here to to check out my other moustache designs.

Movember Moustache Monday

12 Nov

Movember Moustache Monday is a major mouthful. :{  That’s my moustache smiley.

I loved my Smiley Fang mani so much I wanted to do some smileys again.  So light blue represents prostate cancer and light purple is for testicular cancer, so I figured a periwinkle-ish polish could represent both, right?

This polish is Essie Lapis of Luxury.  It was pretty thin and required three coats for decent coverage.  If I were wearing it alone, it probably would’ve needed four coats.  I used Sally Hansen Black Out for the smiles and moustache.  I decided to go with a handlebar this time.  My ring finger looks like Wilford Brimley.  My daughter said that that finger looked “gwumpy.”

Let’s all help bring attention to men’s health issues and encourage the men we love to do their self checks and get their physicals.

Movember

5 Nov

Like I mentioned a couple days ago, November is Men’s Health Awareness month.

Melissa over at Missy’s Manis contacted me and asked if I’d like to link up with her in support of Movember.  I’ve done a few moustache manis, but none specifically for this reason.

Light blue represents prostate cancer, while a lavender-ish purple represents testicular cancer.  I count is as a blessing that none of my loved ones have had to deal with these particular issues.  I pray that it stays that way.

For my base polish, I used NYX Girls White.  It’s very thin and requires several coats for full opacity, but I really like the milky look it has to it.  Then is used Essie Borrowed and Blue for my pinstripes and moustache.  The real feat was that I painted that moustache with my non-dominant hand.  I took it slow, let me tell you.  I’m really pleased with how it turned out.  I love the light simplicity of it.

I hope you’ll join the Movember movement this month and show your support with some prostate and or testicular cancer awareness manis. Feel free to add your link below and show off your handiwork.

Neon Moustaches

24 Aug

Are moustaches still cool?  I think I’m still okay.  I’ve been wanting to do neon moustaches for a while now and just kept putting it off and pushing it further down the “to do” list.  Yesterday I noticed that the leaves on the trees in my backyard are starting to turn already.  That means autumn is almost here so I’d better get all my neon manis done.

I originally planned to do white nails with neon moustaches, but I’m glad I changed my mind.  I’m loving the neon skittles with the white staches.

My white moustaches are acrylic.  The blue is Sinful Colors Savage.  My pink is NYX Girls Pink Strawberry.  The green is NYX Girls Pimp My Nails.  The orange is another NYX Girls, Hot Orange and the purple is Milani Rad Purple.  Pimp My Nail is actually a bit of a jelly.  I didn’t realize that until I was doing coat after coat and still seeing VNL.  Maybe I’ll do some syrup nails with it.

I moustache you a question?  😉  How do you like my neon staches?
