Drip, Drip, Drop

25 Feb

I didn’t even think that Orly Halley’s Comet was sorta the color of water until I was watermakring my photos.  I don’t know why it didn’t dawn on me while I was doing it.Drips_OrlyHalleysComet (5) WLcopyI haven’t done many drippy manis, but always love them when I see all the fabulous ones out there.  I want to perfect it, so I figured I’d better practice.

Drips_OrlyHalleysComet (16) WLcopyLike I said above, I used Orly Halley’s Comet over my naked nail, the topped it off with Chill Zone top coat.

Caramel Apples

19 Oct

I’m not a huge fan of apples.  But cover them in caramel and you bet I’ll eat ’em!  I heart caramel.

Since fall equals caramel apples (for some reason), I thought I’d try to dress up the apple mani I did a while back.  I went with a naked nail peeking out the top this time.  I probably shouldn’t have done that considering my nails are a tad stained.  Oh well.  My apples are Orly Green Apple and China Glaze Velvet Bow.  The stems are Sinful Color Nirvana.

I don’t really have a polish that’s caramel colored, so I had to improvise.  First I used a layer of Cult Nails Power Thief then added a layer of that unnamed yellow polish I picked up from dollar store.  Doesn’t quite add up to the color of caramel, but it still looks yummy to me.

Bloody Cuticles

5 Oct

Oops… I got a little carried away with the cuticle trimmers. Just kidding!  Joshing… Do you remember back in the day when you would say, “I’m just joshing with ya!”  No?  You don’t remember that?  I may have just aged myself.  Sorry.  Not sure where that came from.  Tangent over.

Happy Fright-Day.  That’s what I’m deeming Fridays in October; Fright-Day.  I had the idea for this design the other day and just had to jump on it.  I’m in love with this mani!  I love the elegance of the classic white french manicure coupled with the dripping blood of a cuticle trim gone awry. 😉  Just so you know, I don’t trim my cuticles with scissors or chemicals.  I just push ’em back and moisturize.

I think it’s a fun way to do a Halloween mani.  I used Julep Brigitte for my french tips.  My blood is China Glaze Velvet Bow with a little OPI DS Indulgence thrown in here and there to spice things up.

What do you think of my gory cuticles?  What Halloween manis do you plan to try?

Twinsie Tuesday: Rainbow

18 Sep

On this episode of Twinsie Tuesday we’re sporting rainbows or yay-bows if you’re my two year old.  Being that we’re on the cusp of autumn and it’s not really rainbow season (if there is such a thing) I attempted to go with slightly more autumnal colors for my yaybow.

I’m not impressed with myself.  This looked so much better in my head.  I wish you could see the mental image I have.  This definitely does not live up to my expectations.  I sponged on some Sinful Colors Alpine Snow to act as a base behind my colors and to peek out as a cloud.  My rainbow is made up of OPI Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window, Essie Alligator Purse, Zoya Petra with Sinful Colors Amethyst over the top because Petra was too dark, the unnamed yellow dollar store Color Craze polish and Revlon Chic.

Once I got all my stripes done and decided that it was a failure, but didn’t want to start over, I added some glitter to see if that would help.  I don’t know why.  I never do that.  I know glitter is not the way to resuscitate a dying mani.  Oh well.

Be sure the check out all the other manis today:

Twinsie Tuesday: Funky French

8 May

Tuesday again, already?  This week we’re doing funky french tips.  I started with a different idea in mind and realized my nails are too short to pull off that design right now.  Darn.  I’d already polished my tips and didn’t want to start over so I ran with it.

So this is a little impromptu, but I just really didn’t want to start over.  I’m happy with it.  I started with a tip done in Julep Annette, a soft, light grey creme.  My polka dots are Orly Terracotta.  I topped it off with Poshé.  It smeared my dots a tiny bit, but nothing noticeable.  If I had been in the mood to start over when I realized I couldn’t do the first idea wasn’t going to work, I probably would’ve reversed the colors and done Terracotta tips and Annette polka dots.

Be sure the check out all the frenchies today:
