Tiny Ghosts

29 Oct

I wanted a less obvious Halloween mani.

I used Julep Whitney as my base color.  It’s a very mauve colored beige.  A great fall neutral.  My eyeballs are China Glaze Liquid Leather and the white is acrylic.

I threw on some little baby ghosts to Halloween in up.  It’s been a super busy weekend.  I’m really tired and just can’t think of much to say about this design.  It’s a cute, very understated Halloween mani that would even be appropriate for an office job.

I’m ready for Halloween to be over.  I’ve been so busy.

Twinsie Tuesday: Swap

23 Oct

Today’s theme is a polish from your first swap.  I have a confession to make.  I have yet to sew up a swap.  That made today difficult for me.  There’s really no other way to interpret the theme either.  Sooo…

I decided to play with the first polishes that I bought from a blog sale.  A bit of a stretch, I know.  I considered flat out lying and making something up, but I have morals.  Thou shalt not lie people.  🙂

Anywho.  I’m sporting Julep Molly (red) and Julep Annette here.  I love Molly!  I can’t really say how it’s different from the other classic reds I have, but for some reason it is.  It’s beautiful.  I decided to play with these a bit and try to give the illusion that my nails are filed to a point (rather than the actual square shape) by freehanding in Annette over the top.  Did I achieve my goal?  Do they look pointy?  Hmm… I’m not convinced, but like the design nonetheless.  This color combo reminds me of way back in the day when I used to work the jewelery counter at Target.  We had to wear red shirts and khaki pants.  That’s where I met the hubs by the way.

Chrome Mish Mash

15 Sep

This mani almost seems wintery.  I got the idea for the color combo from a note my Tumblr from user Shopincedarhill in reference to my black and gold mish mash.  Chrome and pearl.

At first I wasn’t sure they would look good together.  I was pleasantly surprised.  I love the color of OPI Swedish Nude, but I don’t use it too often because it’s pretty sheer.  It takes a minimum of three coats for decent coverage.  I paired it up with China Glaze Platinum Silver.

These two are beautiful together.  It’s a very high class, elegant combination.  The mish mash design  dials the formal color scheme back a bit though and lightens the whole feel up.

Because China Glaze Platinum Silver is so shiny and reflective, it was a bit tricky to photograph.  I had a hard time getting any one photo that I was in love with, but still many that are pretty freaking great.

Do you love this chrome and pearl combo as much as I do?

City Scape Nails

10 Sep

It’s so funny to me how simply changing the colors of a design can turn it in to a completely different manicure.

The other times I’ve done this design, here and here, they reminded me of Broadway lights and felt very retro. This time, all I see are skyscrapers.  Color changes everything.

For my base polish, I used Jordana Chiffon.  My black is China Glaze Liquid Leather and the polka dots are Julep Heather.

This is such an easy design to do.  Is this one you would wear?

Wedding Day Polka Dots

3 Sep

As I said in my last post, my sister got married on Saturday.  It rained most of the day and we were all very nervous that the outdoor wedding and reception that had been planned would be ruined.  Thankfully, the skies cleared a little more than an hour before the ceremony.  The sun came out and everything dried up.  It was a very sweet ceremony.  My sister looked unbelievably gorgeous and my new brother-in-law was very handsome in his tux.  A new storm rolled in after a couple hours and we had to scramble inside for the remainder of the celebration, but it didn’t ruin the evening.  Definitely a night to remember.

Being that I was making the wedding cake, I didn’t have a lot of time to do my own nails.  I wanted to keep them simple anyway.

Her colors were coral and aqua.  I polished my nails with Wet ‘n Wild I Need a Refresh-Mint then dotted on some Julep Alyson and Revlon Peachy.  They were the perfect compliment to my coral bridesmaid’s dress and the turquoise jewelery I wore.

I topped it off with Hong Kong Girl Top Coat.

I’ll post a picture of the wedding cake on Top Coat It’s Facebook page if you’d like a peek at it.
