Border Nails Taken Too Far

12 Sep

I hate when you take a mani one step too far and ruin the whole thing.  Why did I add that hideous swirl?

I didn’t see this when I was doing it, but looking at the pictures now it looks like the silhouette of a cat’s tail against a big, full moon.  Uh, yeah, I meant to do that. 😉  Border nails are hard!  The ones I’ve done in the past were a different technique and were much easier, but also had a different look.  They’re not really the same thing.

This look took me a lot longer than I felt like it should have.  I might try this again some time in the future, but it definitely won’t be soon.  I love the colors together though.  The blue is Revlon Chic and the grey is Julep Brigitte.  What do you think of my unintended cat, sort of Halloween-ish mani?

Memorial Day Nails

28 May

These were better looking in my imagination. Actually executed, they are pretty busy.

I think if I’d done fat red and white stripes, it would’ve looked better.  I’m not real happy with it, but it’s still pretty patriotic looking.

I used Color Club Reddy or Not (my best, truest red), Jordana Smooth Blue and Sinful Colors Snow Me White.  Happy Memorial Day to all my U.S. readers!

Framed, Again!

25 May

I think I might be developing a bit of a problem.  I’m constantly thinking of different combinations for a framed mani.  I’ve got an endless stream of ideas.

I love a bright and teal-y blue and red combination.  Red goes with just about everything, doesn’t it?  It’s my favorite color.  While I love these two polishes together, I get a slight superhero vibe from it.

Have you tried a framed mani yet?  They’re actually pretty easy.  Paint the “frame” color, once it’s dry, tape off your tip then paint your center color.  Act like you’re polishing your nail, but keep a small buffer around all the edges.  Ta Da!  Easy, right?

The colors I used are Color Club Reddy or Not and Dollish Polish We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat.

Twinsie Tuesday: Ombre

22 May

This is my first Ombre!  Believe it or not, my stash is pretty small compared to many others.  I like to play and experiment with nail art more than I like to collect polishes.  I might have 200 polishes.  I haven’t counted in a long time.  For my ombre, I chose pink because that was really my only option.  I have tons of blues and greens and lots of other stuff, but none that really worked well together or were all the same finish.  Pink it is!

You know me, I can’t just leave it with plain old polish.  I had to play with it.  I started with a framed ombre, but wasn’t all that happy with it.  I like my pinkie, ring and middle fingers, but the index and thumb colors are just too close.  You can’t really see the framing.  So I started over on my other hand.

Again, I couldn’t leave well enough alone and went with a gradient ombre.  I got the idea from The Swatchaholic.  Her illustrations look much better than my nails do.  I actually really like all but my middle finger.  The colors are just too contrasting so it doesn’t make for a good transition.  To be honest, I liked each mani better before I went all nail art on them.  While I do like both results, I should’ve stopped white I was ahead.

The polishes I used are: Sinful Colors Easy Going, OPI Pink Friday, Milani Pink Hottie, LA Splash Blowfish Purple, Sally Hansen Berry Tantalizing Creme, Color Club Reddy or Not and China Glaze Velvet Bow.  I finished everything off with Poshé top coat.

Be sure the check out all the ombres today:
