Julep Nessa

24 May

I’m not sure how I feel about Nessa.  I got it in my May Maven box.  It’s a pretty yellow foil.  I’m just not sure I’m in love with it.

This is two coats and I still felt like I could see visible nail line.  The cruddy part is that the brush was all frayed out at the end.  It was shaped like a bell.  The other foil that came with it also had a frayed brush so I wondered if for some strange reason they were supposed to look like that.  I emailed Julep and they promptly sent me replacement brushes.

I initially put this on to do a cool design on top of it, but failed miserably so Nessa is all you get.

Elle Riviera Blue + China Glaze Liquid Leather

5 May

When I posted my failed mani on Tuesday it reminded me of the design I was initially trying to implement there.

I started with Elle Riviera Blue.  I’m sad to say I’m a little disappointed in this polish.  The formula seems a bit too thick and holy bubbles!  I assume the bubbles are a result of the thick formula.  I do love the color though; that pretty blue foil.  This design is like one of those pictures that looks different to different people.  You know, like the one that either looks like an old lady or a young lady.  My eye always goes to the black in this design.  I have to force myself to look at the blue.

I really like this design, but want to play with different colors.  This was really easy to do and only took the bottle brush to create.

What do you think of this design?  Does your eye go to the black or the blue?

Ruffian: OPI DS Radiance + NYX Ink

4 May

Ever have one of those manicures that just gets worse and worse and worse as you keep working on it? Yep, I had one of those today. I got a couple fingers in and gave up. I took it off. It was a disaster. I’ll try again someday. Oh well.

I’ve been low on inspiration this week. I’ve been pretty busy, so maybe that’s why. I have had OPI DS Radiance for a while, but hadn’t actually polished my nails with it. It’s the only silver foil I have, so I can’t compare it to anything else, but I thought it was beautiful. Application was fantastic, but I did feel like I needed three coats to cover all the bald spots.

I paired it with NYX Ink, a cobalt blue jelly. NYX Ink seems a little thick to me, but it’s a gorgeous polish. I love how it looks like I dipped my nails in blue glass. So pretty.

Ruffians are hard for me. It’s difficult to make that line pretty. Of course it looks nice in the pictures and I’m sure anyone that saw my hand would think they looked wonderful.
