Color Blocking

3 Nov

I know I don’t get very creative with my color blocking layout, but I really like the shape of this design.   If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

I did this mani for a Julep post (to be scheduled).  I love these colors together, but can’t help but think of a bumblebee when I look at it.  Julep Alma is actually much more chartreuse than it looks here.  It’s definitely a yellow, but with a pea green under current.  The red is my new favorite Julep Molly and the black is Julep Brandt.  Brandt is actually an off black, which I love because it’s just a little softer than a solid black.  What do you think of this color combo?  I like it.

Twinsie Tuesday: Color Blocking

28 Aug

Hello Ladies!  Today we’re playing with color blocking.  I’m a big fan of color blocked manis.  I love the straight lines and geometric angles.  Today, I got my color palate from the t-shirt I was wearing that I got for $6 at JCPenny.  It wasn’t even on clearance.  I love JCP.

I did a neon mani just like this a couple months ago.  I loved it, so I duplicated the layout and just chose new colors; fall-ish colors.

I used Essie Alligator Purse, one of my new favorite colors, Jordana Chiffon and Sinful Colors Amethyst.  I used a new top coat today that I purchased from Etsy.  It’s called HK Girl Clear Top Coat.  The Glisten and Glow shop appears to be down right now.  I’m just getting an error page.  I don’t know if the shop is closed, or if Etsy is just having a problem.  I was introduced to this top coat by a reader.  So far, I like it.  I applied very smoothly, was fast drying and has great shine.  It really reminds me of Poshe.  I’m going to try to wear this mani for a couple of days to give the top coat a test drive.  I’ll try to remember to update you on my overall impression of HK Girl’s top coat.

Twinsie Tuesday: Best Deal

24 Jul

Happy Tuesday everyone!  Today is a state holiday where I live, so we’re celebrating with a family BBQ and fireworks.  I’m hoping we won’t get rained on like we did last year, but the forecast isn’t very promising.  Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Today’s theme is our best deal (excluding gifts, swaps and giveaway winnings).  I had a hard time coming up with a polish for this one.  I’m not one to go deal shopping for anything.  If I want it, I’m generally willing to pay the asking price.  I really had to rack my brain.  Then I remembered that several months back, I paid 1¢ for two polishes.  Julep was having one of their 1¢ introductory Maven Box deals.  How can you pass up a deal like that.  It really was 1¢.  No extra surprise charges.

I’ve already shown you both of the polishes I got in that box, so I had to do something fun with one of them.  Julep Selena is a fantastic sort of chartreuse/olive green creme.  I love it!

Here, I’ve paired it with Nicole by OPI Overwhelmed.  This is a raisin colored purple shimmer.  I’ve had this polish for eons!  Really.  I think I may have stolen it from my sister when we were teenagers.  Now, I’m not that old, but I will say that I’ve been out of high school for more than a decade.

Because Overwhelmed is so old, it was a bit thick and sticky and difficult to work with.  I didn’t bother adding any thinner to it, but probably should have.  You can see it bubbled a bit.  A gorgeous color, nonetheless.

I thought these two colors complimented each other really well, so I decided to do some color blocking.  My ring finger is my favorite.

Neon Color Blocking

21 Apr

My three favorite neon polishes, yet again.  This is actually the first mani I did with these polishes.  If I remember correctly, I did it the same day I bought them.  I don’t know why I’ve waited so long to post it.  I absolutely love it!

I actually took a shortcut in doing this design and if you pay attention, you can see it.  I polished half my nail in Milani Pink Hottie , then polished the other half with Milani Rad Purple and applied Jordana Quick Dry top coat.  Once it was dry enough, I taped off my nails one at a time and added Milani Fresh Teal.  An extra coat of the teal likely would’ve hidden my “seam” underneath, but adding a second coat is difficult to do with a tape manicure.  Despite my visible seam, I’m in love this this design and color combination.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I absolutely adore Rad Purple!  I’m actually planning to use it for a mani I’m doing tomorrow.  I can’t get enough of it.

My nails are at a pretty perfect length right here, too.  Not too short, not too long.  They need to be trimmed down right now.  I’m having trouble typing because they’re hitting the dead space between keys.  These new fancy, flat keyboards are not friendly to ladies with long nails.
